A Highland ski area has taken delivery of a new machine to help keep the slopes pristine this winter.
CairnGorm Mountain has a new piste-grooming vehicle, the Pisten Bully 600, which can tackle and prepare steeper slopes for snowsports enthusiasts.
The ski area’s spokesman Colin Kirkwood said: “The wishes of the boys who spend so much time clearing snow and rearranging it on the slopes of CairnGorm Mountain ski resort were granted on Christmas Eve when Santa delivered a big toy to them to help with the task of preparing the pistes for the thousands of skiers who flock to the resort each winter.”
He added it was the only modern pisting machine in the UK that operates with a winch, allowing it to work on steep slopes by using an anchor point as well as conventional slopes.
Early snow cover has meant that already this season over 14,000 skiers have taken to the slopes at the resort, with many more expected over the next two weeks.
The resort has also arranged an enhanced public bus service to operate from Aviemore to the ski area with buses operating three times an hour from early until late from Boxing Day until January 9.
Search dogs will be giving demonstrations of their activities at the mountain on Wednesday and Thursday at 11am.
The outdoor sessions last 40 minutes and are free, although donations may be given to the Scottish Search and Rescue Dog Association. Those interested should meet in the T-Bar.
