Scotland Skiing to open after significant summer investment

Lagt til av: Espen Børresen | publisert: 09.12.2011

After a recent windy and winter storm, enough snow has fallen for some of Scotland's Ski areas to partially open. After some significant investment by some resorts, they will be keen to claw back some of those costs.

Glenshee, Nevis Range, Cairngorms and Glencoe all report some investment and will be keen to get uplift started for this season.

Glenshee have invested in Over 5000 metres of replacement snow fencing, new beginners area with rope tow, a new chairlift to reduce uplift queues from the car park, some new ropes for existing lifts, a JCB and John Deere for clearing car parks, new hire equipment, a PB snowblower attachment for moving snow into wanted areas, a new PB600 with park blade and a low hours PB170 for mountain grunt work.

Nevis Range reports a new PB300 Polar and 1200 metres of replacement fencing. 900 metres have been installed as slatted wood fencing and the remaining is replacement vertical wood and wire fencing. Interesting results may be achieved!

Cairngorm have taken delivery of, and started using a demo Technoalpin T40 of which appears already to have impressed. In addition, new winch points have been installed over the mountain to assist with slope preparation and make better use of last seasons PB600W investment. The tunnel mouth for the funicular has also been given some new fencing to help prevent the daily 'Dig out' which was time consuming, labour intensive and reduced uplift and slope openings.

Glencoe have also taken a demo from Techoalpin and updates are still to be heard.

Glenshee, Cairngorm and Lecht all hope to be up and running this weekend following the storm however Nevis Range who were all set to go, have had to delay due to the amount of storm damage after the storm.

Good luck all.
